Callahan’s General Store will be hosting a kick off event for Austin’s fourth annual Funky Chicken Coop Tour. The Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow will provide a special screening of Mad City Chickens at 7:00 PM. Prior to the movie, The Sustain Center, located next door to Callahan's, is putting on its own Spring Chicken Festival with vendors, food, and other great stuff. There will be fun for the whole family, with kids activities and educational sessions including backyard chicken keeping, organic gardening, composting with “chicken fuel”, and much more. Mad City Chickens is a sometimes serious, sometimes whimsical look at the people who keep urban chickens in their backyards. From chicken experts and authors to a rescued landfill hen or an inexperienced family that decides to take the poultry plunge—and even a mad professor and giant hen taking to the streets—it’s a humorous and heartfelt trip through the world of backyard chickendom.
